2010 COLORADO CITY & RYE PROJECT

 

Project Overview

 

Colorado Natural Gas, Inc is pleased to announce plans for the construction of a natural gas distribution system that will provide clean, efficient natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Colorado City, Rye and the surrounding areas.

 

 

Company Information

  • Providing natural gas service since May of 1997.
  • Current service areas in Jefferson, Gilpin, Park, Teller, Summit, and Pueblo Counties.
  • Colorado Natural Gas, Inc. is a subsidiary of Summit Utilities, Inc. 
  • Regulated by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission and the Department of Transportation Office of Pipeline Safety.

 

Project Detail

  • 104 Miles of Main
  • Projected Cost of $7.7 million
  • Potential Customer Base of 1700
  • General Contractor: AJ Ventures, Inc.  Subcontractor: KR Swerdferger
  • System will provide natural gas services to Colorado City, Rye and other unincorporated areas of Pueblo County.

 

Project Schedule

  • Schedule I: Supply line from Pueblo to Colorado City. Construction began in February 2010.
  • Schedule II: Construction primarily within Colorado City and the immediate vicinity. Construction scheduled to start March 2010, with natural gas availability anticipated late April 2010.
  • Schedule III: Construction primarily within the Town of Rye and the immediate vicinity. Construction scheduled to start June of 2010, with natural gas availability anticipated July/August 2010.
  • Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2010.

 

Benefits of Natural Gas

  • Economical: CNG's rated for this area are currently $1.37 per therm. This is the equivalent to purchasing propane for $1.26 per gallon.
  • Efficient: No tanks to fill or maintain; transported at a lower cost than other fuel sources.
  • Convenient: Budget billing and online payments are available.
  • Safe: One of the world's safest energy sources; less likely to reach combustible levels than propane.
  • Green: Has a lower carbon output than propane and is the best energy alternative for today.
  • Domestic:  Most of the natural gas consumed in the United States is produced in the U.S.
